Local news for local people

As before, stories from your local area you think might be of interest, but not necessarily worth a thread of their own.

Harry Cohen MP makes ?90 grand from house bought with your money

http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/wfnews/8295889.LEYTON_WANSTEAD__Disgraced_MP__makes___90k_profit__on_house/

I saw this in the agent's window - he did a very nice job I have to say. Dead tasteful, and nice aga in the kitchen.

You have to say - ?465K is pretty good for a house like this in a nice London neighbourhood. Definitely a lot for your dosh around these 'ere parts!

This guy would rather go to prison than pay a ?700 fine for dropping litter

http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/39I39ll-go-to-jail-rather.6452907.jp

You cant knock free room and board, average rent per month is getting on for ?700 per month, its costing them more.

LOL thats true, he refuses to admit that he did it and if i were in his shoes and there was no proof then i would stick to my guns as well.
It'll probably be thrown out of court, these things always are.

Nice to see you back DJ

Nice to be back Suzie :) hope your fine

Is crazy ?700 for some litter, isnt it doing litter pickers out of a job anyhow

Government praise for Woking's controversial canopy

http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/s/2076166_government_praise_for_wokings_controversial_canopy

THE controversial Woking canopy has seen the borough council hailed by Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne as a "forward-thinking" local authority. Mr Huhne paid a visit to the town on Monday after pledging to give councils the power to sell renewable electricity and help them become proactive in the construction of energy sources. He took a train to Woking station and met council chief executive Ray Morgan underneath the canopy.
The glass and steel structure in Albion Square boasts photovoltaic cells to harness the sun?s power. But costing more than ?4m so far - discounting future maintenance expenditure - the canopy is seen by some as being a white elephant in the town. about 90% of the populace Speaking to Get Surrey, Mr Huhne said energy sources were "inevitably going to be expensive". He added: ?For too long, Whitehall's dogmatic reliance on 'big' energy has stood in the way of the vast potential role of local authorities in the UK's green energy revolution.

Ms Thompson happens to be a friend of mine, the bass player in the band I went to see last week is the father of her two daughters.
