John Wetton dead at 67
« on: August 31, 2017, 09:30:23 AM »
I did go into the search section first, to see if anyone else had made a thread about it already, but nothing came up.

It happened in January, but i only found out about it last night.

John Wetton was the original frontman of the band Asia (famous for the song Heat of the Moment), but he also use to be part of King Crimson.  Asia was formed by 4 members of different progressive rock bands, Like John Wetton of King Crimson, Geoff Downes of Yes, and Steve Rowe of Emerson Lake and Palmer.

Was sad to learn of the news, I saw Asia live in Bournemouth in 2008, and it was a good gig aswell.

I imagine many people didn't know who he was. People have little interest in progressive rock these days.

I think he may have been in Roxy Music for a while too. He fronted the supergorup UK, which also featured Bill Bruford on drums (Yes, King Crimson, Genesis) and Eddie Jobson (Roxy Music) on keyboards, as well as guitarist Alan Holdsworth on guitar (who also died this year)

I've a lot of respect for Jon Wetton and Crimson are one of my favourite rock bands of all time. Asia were a little too commercial for me, and although I preferred Greg Lake as a singer in KC, Wetton did sing on what I thought was their best album 'Red'

No disrespect intended.
And I didn't even realise there was a musical genre called 'progressive rock'
Thanks.

Don't start me off..  >:D

It's a broad church, everything from Pink Floyd through Queen to Radiohead & Muse, taking in Genesis and Yes along the way, is prog rock. The 70's prog bands were quite musically incestuous, with musicians jumping ship, then going back at a moments notice. It was like bloody wife swapping, but with guitars, and amazing light shows.

FVZ getting cancer just after he decided to run for POTUS was one of the saddest things that ever happened.

It would have been great theatre and he was so full of common sense... The establishment would have hated it.

Obviously as an independent he would lost but what the hell!
